Τhe University of the Aegean holds nodal thematic competences, facilities and experiences that are of high relevance for YOUTHShare project’s smooth implementation. UAegean spans across two Regions with the unique feature that they comprise the Aegean archipelago. In that environment UAegean is a Regional Innovator across insular and coastal Mediterranean regions with strong partnerships and effective communication with several National, International Universities and Authorities. The university’s faculties and departments have actively participated in numerous international research networks and projects the last decades, designed to improve Regional Innovation, Human Capital and Mobility of Researchers. UAegean has established 90 research laboratories and centres with diverse activities in several research areas. Additionally, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the university promotes entrepreneurial and innovative capacity as identified in the Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS3) of the North and South Aegean Regions, with a focus in agri-food production, blue/ green growth and circular economy.

Dr. Stelios Gialis is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean, Greece, since 2014. He has studied Rural and Surveying Engineering and received his Ph.D. in Economic Geography and Regional Development in 2004. Between 2012 and 2015 he was jointly affiliated with the University of Georgia (UGA), US and the Hellenic Open University, Greece, doing post-doctoral research. He has published in many academic journals including Geoforum, European Urban and Regional Studies, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Economic and Industrial Democracy etc. His research interests include Labour and Geography, the spatial divisions of flexible/ atypical/ informal employment, Urban restructuring and labor markets. He acts as the Project Manager and Principal Investigator of YOUTHShare.

Dr. Athanasios Kizos is Professor of Rural Geography in the Department of Geography. He has 20 years of professional experience in agricultural systems and rural development. He comes from an agricultural sciences bachelor degree and holds a PhD on Environmental Policy and Planning. He has published on agricultural landscape change and farming systems, islands and insularity, analysis of cultural landscape change, ecosystem services assessment, temperate and Mediterranean agroforestry systems, and human-environment relations.

Dr. Theodoros Iosifides is Professor of Social Science Methods at the University of the Aegean, Greece. He studied Sociology and Regional Development at Panteion University of Athens and holds a D. Phil in Human Geography from the University of Sussex, UK. He has written expensively journal papers, books and book chapters on migration and social science methodology, epistemology and qualitative methods. He participated in several international research projects and his areas of interests include migration studies, qualitative methods and social science epistemology/methodology.

Ms. Effie Emmanouil has a diploma in civil engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, her post graduate studies include a MSc in Engineering Project Management from the Hellenic Open University, a MSc in Human Geography – Development and Planning of the Space from the University of the Aegean (is to be completed in June 2019) and she is a PhD candidate in Economic and Labour Geography at the University of the Aegean. She has worked as a freelancer civil engineer and as a partner or employee in consultant and construction firms in Thessaloniki and Mytilene, undertaking hydraulic, road engineering and building construction projects. She is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE-TCG).

Ms. Athina Avagianou studied Architecture in National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). She is MSc graduate of Geo-Informatics, with specialization in Human Geography–Development and Planning of the Space, at the University of the Aegean (will be completed in June 2019) and she is a PhD candidate in Human Geography at the University of the Aegean. She has been running a technical office as a freelance architect in Mytilene for eight years, dealing with architectural and interior design projects and supervision on construction sites.

Ms. Eirini Mprezetou studied Environmental Sciences in the University of the Aegean. She has a long standing experience on financial and administrative management of various projects. In particular, she administers all stages of reporting and documentation of various projects and applies general management principles to financial resources of the projects.

Mr. Ioannis Dimou belongs to the IT staff of the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean. He studied Computer Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He then did her postgraduate studies in telecommunications and received his Masters Degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He worked for a short time as a Software Development Engineer at Siemens until his appointment in the Department of Geography. In addition to his duties at the Department of Geography, he worked as a computer lab instructor at IEK Mytilene and the Lifelong Learning Center of Lesvos. Furthermore, he has been and is currently involved in research programs at the University of the Aegean, performing mainly software development work as well as computer support in various research projects. His research interests include the development of web and mobile applications with Android OS, PHP programming, and web design.

Mr. Akis Kanelleas is a Rural & Surveying Engineer graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1997 and received his master’s degree (MA) in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) from the University of Leeds UK in 1998. A well-rounded and highly-trained GIS Specialist with more than 20 years of experience acquired at Junior and Senior-level GIS positions held in engineering design, transportation construction management and Asset Management/Real Estate Companies; a motivated decision maker, possessing a strong combination of analytical and leadership skills, along with a well proven record of achievements within challenging environments. He has participated in many projects and has a strong interest in research, especially in Geography, Data Analysis and the development of GIS application environments.

Dr. Konstantinos Gourzis studied Urban Planning & Development at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (BSc) and Economic Geography at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands (MSc). He has received a PhD for his research on the reciprocal links between gentrification and labour market shifts, in the context of Athens, Greece, which was funded by a long-term scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation. He also is a Fulbright Alumni, as in 2018-19 he was jointly affiliated with the University of Georgia, US. He has published numerous papers in international scientific journals of high impact factor and in the proceedings of international scientific conferences. In the forthcoming semesters he will be teaching the courses “Tourism and Development”, “Regional Geography and Development”, and “Development and Planning of Innovative Areas”, which are part of the curriculum of the undergraduate program of the Dpt. of Geography, University of the Aegean. In YouthShare, he acts as a postdoctoral researcher and the coordinator of Work Package 1 (Stimulate Trans-locally: A transnational Research Network on the study of Youth Employment policies in MED EEA).

Dr Nikos Kapitsinis is an economic geographer with a background in political economy approach to uneven geographical development as well as geographies of production and globalisation. His current research focuses on the Covid-19 geographies, the economic geography of Wales, the crisis-prone socio-spatial restructurings, and the geographies of employment. Alongside his engagement with the YouthShare project, he is a research associate in the Welsh Economy Research Unit at Cardiff Business School. He holds a BSc in Planning and Regional Development from the University of Thessaly, an MSc in European Regional Development Studies from the University of Thessaly, and an MRes in Regional Studies from the University of Groningen. He was awarded his PhD in Economic Geography in the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. Nikos’ work has been published in international top-ranked journals, such as Geoforum, Local Economy and European Planning Studies. He is a Regional Studies Association Fellow and received the commendation for the Best Young Scientist Paper in the 4th Pan-Hellenic Congress of Urbanism, Spatial Planning and Regional Development in 2015.

Mr. Dimitris Psarologos holds a BSc in Geography from the University of the Aegean and a MSc Political Economy at the Department of Economics of the University of Athens. His interests include regional and labour inequalities, WebGIS applications, and data analysis. He has participated in the writing of two articles regarding the footprint of COVID-19 on employment which have been published in The Greek Review of Social Research and the scientific journal Geographies. This work has also been presented in two international scientific conferences—specifically, the conference of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics in 2021, as well as the Euro-Mediterranean Conference & Exhibition in 2020. Additionally, he has contributed to the visuals in papers published in international scientific journals such as European Urban and Regional Studies.

Mr. Georgios Chatzichristos – holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of the Aegean (UoAegean), as a fellow of the European Union in the programme “Horizon 2020 – Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions – Innovative Training Networks – RurAction: Social Entrepreneurship in Structurally Weak Rural Regions”. He has an interdisciplinary background: a degree in Economics from the University of Macedonia (UoM), an MSc in Political Theory from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a MA in Philosophy from King’s College London (KCL). His research focuses on Rural Development, Social Innovation, Social Economy and Qualitative Research. He has published his research, among others, in prestigious international journals such as Journal of Rural Studies, European Planning Studies, and Rural Sociology.

Mr. Babis Koutounidis studied Business Administration at the University of Macedonia and received his master’s degree (Msc) in Operational Research from the London School of Economics in 2009. He has many years of experience in the financial management of various projects and organisations. Additionally, he has worked as management and logistics consultant.

Prof. Dr. Aikaterini Klonari – permanent Academic Staff – is Professor of Teaching Geography in the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean. She teaches a wide variety of courses in undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes. She has published on teaching and learning Geography, Use of CIT and GIS in Education as well as on teachers training and professional development. She is a co-author of Greek Geography textbooks and Geography Curriculum for Compulsory Education. She participates in Digital School as expert and scientific director for Geography and Environmental Studies subjects. She continues to conduct research locally and internationally on teaching and learning methodology, Geography Curricula and on GIS in Education. Aikaterini was member of the team until 2021.

Dr. Michalis Poulimas studied Sociology at the University of the Aegean and the University of Nanterre (Paris X). He received a PhD for his research on “New-marxist approaches of class structure: The new middle class and the social subject in E.O.Wright” during which he was awarded a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). Since December 2016, he is a post-doctoral researcher at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the field of “social determinants of health”. He teaches the courses: “Special Topics in the Social Stratification of Greece”, “Class Structure of Contemporary Societies” and “Sociology of Health and Illness” at the University of the Aegean. Michalis was member of the team until 2021.

Dr Karolos Iosif Kavoulakos– holding a Ph.D. degree in Political Sociology, is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has participated in several research projects (research areas: social solidarity economy, civil society, social movements, urban sociology, gender policy). He has recently conducted surveys and researches on contemporary alternative economic and political spaces and social economy in Greece. His research interests include urban sociology and politics, social policy, social movements, civil society, and NGO’s. Dr Kavoulakos has a considerable experience in research design and implementation of both qualitative and quantitative as well as comparative methods of social research. He is currently writing articles on social economy and social movements in Greece. He is member of the board of the Greek Political Science Association. He is author of many articles in scientific books and reviews. Karolos was member of the team until 2021.

Ms. Dimitra Glenti studied Architecture at National Technical University of Athens and has a Master’s degree in Social and Historical Anthropology from the University of the Aegean. She also holds a Certificate of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence and has worked as an architect, a researcher and an educator. She is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of the Aegean.In YOUTHShare she participates in the development of the educational material. In particular, she works in the preparation of the training module, trainees’ handbook & educator’s manual for skills in social economy and in resilient sectors (i.e. agrifood and waste management). She also collaborates in the advancement of soft skills for the target groups (disadvantages female NEETs, refugees etc.) and the development of additional training materials (icebreakers,energizers, motivation techniques, evaluations tools etc). Dimitra was member of the team until 2021.

Dr. Ioannis Papageorgiou graduated from the Law School of Athens. After an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Edinburgh, he received a PhD from the same institution in Political Sociology and State Theory. His publications regard the political dimension of social phenomena in micro- (‘The police and the far right in Greece: a case study of police voting behaviour in Athens’ [Crime Law and Social Change. 2016. 66:4]) and macro- level (‘Economic crisis and integration: Deconstructing social borders in Rhodes island’ [Social and Education History. 2017. 6:2]). He had been research associate of the Department of Primary Education of the University of the Aegean and tutor of the course State, Institutions Education and Political Socialisation of the Youth in the same department. Since 2013 he is research coordinator at Rhodes Centre for Historical and Social Research. Ioannis was member of the team until 2022.

Neapolis University Pafos (NUP), Cyprus – Beneficiary partner
Neapolis University Pafos was founded in 2007 in Pafos, Cyprus. In addition to abiding to the uppermost academic standards, it strives to excel in research as well. NUP’s acquires both the facilities and the experience to support the project’s smooth implementation. Specifically, NUP has actively participated in several international research networks and projects, and is duly capable of supervising PHD students. At the same time, along time, it has developed strong links with the local and national business community and an extensive collaboration network with institutions and organizations worldwide. Quality of services is of great importance for NUP. Thus, Quality Assurance Unit of the NUP coordinates and supports the internal and external evaluation procedures through a unified assurance system and according to international good practices.

Dr. Ioannis Pissurios is a Lecturer at the Neapolis University Pafos. He studied Architecture and then pursued postgraduate studies in Geography and Cartography. He also holds a Ph.D. in Urban Planning, while from 2010 to 2011 he pursued Post-Doctoral Research, both of which were funded, the first by the State Scholarships Foundation of Greece and the second by the AUTh Research Committee. His research interests focus on the survey methodology of urban space, as well as on the analysis and planning of urban space with the use of indicators. He has written over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes, published by Elsevier, Springer and Taylor & Francis among others.

Dr. Natia Anastasi received a Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from Yale University. After a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison on environmental chemistry she returned to Cyprus where she has been working in local industry. Since June 2014 she is Director of Research at Neapolis University, Pafos, responsible for the management and scientific implementation of projects including Horizon 2020, FP7 and Erasmus+. Dr Anastasi’s research interests are on Waste Management and Sustainability as well as Science Communication, Citizen science, and gender and STEM careers. Dr Anastasi has numerous publications in scientific journals, has served on committees as scientific expert both in Cyprus and overseas.

Miss Elena Polydorou graduated from the First Lyceum Ethnarhi Makariou in Paphos. She studied Business Administration at University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. After graduating, she was accepted by the London School of Economics where she attended her Post Graduate degree on Accounting Organizations and Institutions. Then, she continued her studies obtaining a Post Graduate title MBA, graduating from Frederick University of Cyprus. She embarked on her Doctoral studies at Neapolis University in Paphos in collaboration with the University of Peloponnese. Meanwhile, she took part in a program in relation to Compliance at Kapodistrian University of Athens where she achieved her diploma. She has been a visiting lecturer at Neapolis University of Paphos since January 2017.

Savvas A. Chatzichristofis received his Diploma as well as his Ph.D. degree (with honors) from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. After a 6-years postdoc at Center for Research and Technology Hellas, he was appointed Adjunct Lecturer at the Cyprus University of Technology. He has also held visiting posts at Institute for Information Technology at Klagenfurt University in Austria. In 2017, he joined the Department of Computer Science, Neapolis University Pafos, Cyprus, as Associate Professor and Program Director. His research focuses on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Robotics. His scientific interests lie in the following fields: visual feature extraction, image analysis, matching, indexing and retrieval, SLAM and Educational Robotics.

Zinon Zinonos received the Diploma in Computer Engineering from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department (CEID) of the University of Patras, Greece, in 2005, and the M.Sc and Ph.D degrees from Computer Science Department, University of Cyprus, in 2008 and 2013, respectively, all in computer science. Currently, he is a Lecturer in Informatics at Neapolis University Pafos. His research interests include Internet of Things, wireless, ad hoc and sensor networks, mobility management in low power devices. He has published articles to journals and presented his work at several conferences organized by the computer science and communication networks community. He is actively involved in various projects funded by the European Commission.

Andreas Masouras is a Lecturer at the University of Neapolis in Pafos in the fields of Marketing Management, entrepreneurship and innovation. He holds a PhD (Honors) from the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese. The title of his doctoral dissertation is: “Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness through the lens of the Institutional Analysis: The Case of Cyprus”. Also, he holds a Professional Doctorate in Management (D.Mgt.) from Monarch Business School (Switzerland) and MPhil from Brighton University (Media Management). He is currently a faculty member at Neapolis University, Pafos and has taught at foreign universities such as the MBA program at Cardiff Metropolitan University and various distance programs. Sistema Turismo is a training centre which promotes, organises and manages internships and educational programmes for young students, teaching staff, unemployed, young workers and organizations coming from all over Europe. The main mission is to provide the best work experiences, training courses, workshops and seminars for students and adults. It has been established in 1996 in Italy and is dedicated in bringing value into every aspect of training and learning mobility. More specifically, ST is active in research of new training methods and the development of training courses. Mr. Francesco Di Bello is graduate of Political Science from the University of Salerno, he has developed a professional pathway dealing with planning and management of European funding in education and training. Co-founder of Sistema Turismo and Head of European Projects, for over 20 years he has gained a deep knowledge of the institutional and social context of reference, regarding particularly European policies, as well as the ability to build project paths across the different plans (local, national and EU) and focused on specific sector and target; he is well skilled in monitoring, detection, analysis of the results of work supply / job matching, labour market and training; in definition of educational tools and methodologies; supporting in reporting on the implemented projects.

Mrs. Antonella Ielpo born in 1990, she studied Business and Administration at the University of Basilicata. Since 2015, she works with Sistema Turismo with responsibilities on management and the administrative-financial monitoring of projects financed by various programmes. Specifically, she manages the whole phase of reporting and documentation of various projects in progress, verifying their progress and interfacing with the project managers and with the administrative office.

Mrs. Anna Carla Ronchi is a graduate of Modern Literature with a Masters’ degree in History. Anna Carla has been working at Sistema Turismo for about 10 years with a long experience in the area of designing and planning projects especially in the framework of Leonardo and Erasmus programme with expertise in monitoring, research, training and organizational coordination. She has also extensive experience in producing materials and drafting reports on various themes and projects in an array of different thematic areas. Being passionate about classical culture and storytelling, she is involved in content strategy and communication area.

Mrs. Maria Pina Triunfo is consultant, trainer and an avid for foreign international affairs. The focus of her work in Sistema Turismo relates with management of EU funded projects. For over 14 years, she has developed multiple skills in different sectors that converge in training and development of educational and training projects. She is experienced in in-depth research, planning and reporting, budgeting, training development and implementing projects and enjoys the intercultural relations build within EU funded projects that lead to transfer of knowledge, new ideas and best practices built. She has a degree in International Affairs from IUO – Istituto Universitario Orientale in Naples and a Post-degree in Planning and Budgeting of European Project from AICCRE.

Mrs. Alfredina Villani has been working with Sistema Turismo since 2004. She has previous experience in the training sector, dealing with the promotion and educational coordination of post-diploma and post-graduate training courses. Since 2007 she gained experience in organizing traineeships, setting up networks of companies to host European interns, screening of CVs of young interns and matching between CV and company in the framework of LLP Erasmus area. Since 2016, she is the scientific coordinator of the Observatory of Training in Transnational Mobility. She studies Sociology, Economics and Labor, at the University of Salerno to offer a useful and functional as well as conscious perspective of operation in the world of education and to be increasingly “culturally and professionally equipped” to face the growing developments in the labor market.
